Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz (1646-1716), German philosopher, scientist, mathematician and diplomat, born in Leipzig, introducer of the concept of function in mathematical Terminolgia and the first binary numbering system, today generalized in language Computer. Original edition, dedicated almost exclusively (496 p.) to the nouveaux essais sur l'entendement humain, text written between 1703 and 1705, in response to the work of John Locke "Essay concerning human understanding". The author postponed his publication when he was aware of Locke's death because he considered it unacceptable to attack the ideas of someone who could not defend himself. Very clean specimen, entire spotted calf bindingof te time, slightly tired, with crumbled corners and weak joints, conserving the original guards on marbled paper. Brunet, III, 950. Manuel Severim de Faria (1584-1655), erudite historian and genealogist, chantre of the Lisbon Cathedral, from where it was natural, is considered one of the pioneers of Portuguese journalism. Original edition, especially appreciated for including the biographies of Luís de Camões, João de Barros and Diogo do Couto, illustrated with the intaglio portraits of the first two that came to serve as models for those who subsequently engraved. It also includes a curious discourse with which conditions the pursuit of hunting is commenseable (pp. 136 to 147). Cover sheet with severe restoration in the upper right corner, affecting the xylographic frame and the light letter S of the word VARIOS of the title (blank verse); Moth cuts restored on the following two leaves and final two; Portrait of Camões with well-restored tear, without lack of support; First se of leaves probably from another specimen. On the other, a clean, slightly trimmed specimen, 18th century entire caf lined binding, sightly tired, preserving the original guards and the marbled cut of the leaves equal to the paper of the guards. Original edition of his family letters, written in captivity. The copy was added at the end, with numbering of P. 795 to 800, the hundredth and last letter (letter C) that is missing in most of the known copies, because it was ripped off by the Holy Office. A slightly trimmed specimen (cut of the carminated leaves) and with some acidity. Edition commented by Manuel Correa, priest of Mouraria and personal friend of Camões, whose comments, published posthumously, were reformed by Pedro de Mariz who killed them in the square, after the death of his author. The biographical summary of Camões that Mariz outlines in his introduction, was the first news about the life of the poet and contains almost all the data that about his life today are known. Specimen trimmed and somewhat handled, with understated of the time, acidity and some fungi stains, especially on the lower margin. Cover with striked manuscript belonggings (of the time); Second and last folios with minor acidity damage. 19th century entire calf binding, (with new guards); trimming on the plans, decorated with loose irons (iron with repeated lira on the in between raised bands of the spine). Regarding this edition, of which there are at least two variants, we should see the extensive comments that are dedicated to him by José do Canto (18) and Inocêncio (XIV, n º 18, p. 49). Each volume (with two tomes) includes only one common cover. In front of the Folio + + 4 of the first volume there are two intaglio portraits, Camões and Faria e Sousa, with the particularity of that being represented blind of the left eye. In the fourth tome (bak of Folio Qqqq4 and front of folio Qqqq5), two large xylographic illustrations figuring a map-mundi. The beginning of each corner is adorned with an allusive vignette, open in copper plate. It also includes several xylographic illustrations, namely the portraits of Vasco da Gama, D. Francisco de Almeida, Afonso de Albuquerque and others. The specimen, very trimmed and with strong acidity, does not include the informacion en favor of Manvel de Faria and Sovsa..., which sometimes comes bound together. Entire flexible parchment of the time, a little tired, conserving the original guards on printed leaves and four of the eight leather laces. Although with indication of "third ", it is probably the fourth edition (or variant of the third), since with the same date there is another one of the same printer, with a sphere armillar in the cover and slightly different collation (only four Preliminary leaves). In fact, the two impressions also present significant differences in composition that are not constant from copy to copy. Therefore, serious problems of bibliographic order are raised, as can be seen by the detailed descriptions of Tito de Noronha (Yearbook of the Camoneana National Society), José do Canto (14) and Brito Aranha (Inocêncio, 11) who are also not Matching. The first advances even the hypothesis that it is a forgery that has been printed in 1615, at the expense of Domingos Fernandes, at the home of Vicente Álvares. Complete specimen, with slight acidity and an inkblot, of varying sizes, on the upper margin of most leaves, sometimes affecting the current titles. Moreover, very clean and with good margins. João de Almeida Portugal (1663-1733), 2nd Count of Assumar, by several noblemen of Spain, mostly on the occasion of the stay of D. João in Catalonia as ambassador to the Court of the Archduke Carlos, suitor for the throne of Spain. In the endepapar, the following inscription of the time: Letters of Conde de Oropesa, de D. Antonio de Villarroel, do Conde de Alcaudete, do de Cardona, do Conde e da Condeça de Galbe, do Marquez de Almenar, do Duque de Orzeda, do de Arcos e do de Baños, do Marquez de Balbazes, de D. Luiz Salazar de Castro, do Conde de Clabigo, do Bispo do Porto Carrero, do Marquez de Prié, do Conde de Altarez, e do de Prezen, de D. Luiz de Cordiva e Lacerda, do Duque de Juvenazu, de D. MANUSCRITOS.- CONDE DAS GALVEIAS (4º).- Correspondência.- Século XVIII (1724-1725).- 81 documents; 24 cm. - E. André de Mello e Castro (1668-1753), 4th Count of Galveins, governor of the province of Minas Gerais (1732-1735), Viceroy of Brazil (1736-1749), was in charge of several diplomatic missions, including the Ambassador of Portugal in Rome (Holy See). Letters consisting of 81 original letters, addressed to D. João de Almeida Portugal (1663-1733), 2nd Count of Assumar (Gr. de Port. of the Cons º. de Estado de S. Magde.), all of which were sent from Rome, dated from 1 January 1724 to 19 September 1725. On the steering endpaper, the following inscription of the time: Letters of André de Mello de Castro, named Count of Galveas Ambassador in Rome, to the count of Assumar, continued since the Anno of 1724, until 1725. I take 7. Documents very well preserved, assembled in chronological order, in a volume with cardboard lined binding of the time.

MANUSCRITOS.- EMBAIXADA DE PORTUGAL NA CATALUNHA (18th C.).- Dois copiadores de correspondência.- Século XVIII (1705-1706; 1711-1712).- 2 vols.; 30 cm.- E. Set consisting of two letter copiers belonging to the Embassy of Portugal in Catalonia (Barcelona), next to Archduke Charles of Habsburg, during the war of Succession of Spain (1701-1714), being Ambassador D. João de Almeida Portugal (1663-1733), 2nd Count of Assumar. The first volume (287 p.) has the following inscription, from the time, in the upper binder of the binding: Diary that starts with on 28 July 1705. The documents cover the period from 28 July 1705 to 28 February 1706. The second volume (380 p.), presents the following inscription, of the time, in the endpaper: Copeador das cartas que escreveu o Exmo. Sr. Embaix[ad]or. para os Ministros que se achão nas Cortes dos Alleados escrito em Barcelona ao prim[eiro] de Junho de 1711 [a 21 de Junho de 1712]. The two volumes, in addition to transcribing letters and other official papers, include numerous entries of almost daily events, which gives it a remarkable documentary interest. Both entire parchment binding, exhibit some damage to the covers, with serious flaws in the parchment. The documents are, however, all in very good condition.

Set consisting of the following autograph documents: Two letters to his wife D. Sebastião of Portugal, with instructions to the judges, aldermen, prosecutors and officials of the municipality of Antuã on the way of naming the almotacés of the aforementioned county. Document dated Lisbon, 1 August 1567. Autographer Signature: The Card. Iffte. (Cardinal Infante, D. Henrique, during the minority of his grandson-nephew, King D. Sebastião). On the back, several visas and records. It preserves the ribbon and a fragment of the seal.

João I that closes the process moved by Rodrigo Eanes, abbot of S. Martinho de Cavanhão ("Cauanham "), against João Estevens de Matos, Squire, and his wife Joana Rodrigues, residents in Vila Verde, term of sanfins, on the possession of a Fifth called the Reboulho or the Rebulho, of which the author claims to have been unsated by the defendants. Current process in the House of the civil of Coimbra by royal decision because the judges of the judge of Sanfins "Could not do right to them because they were powerful people and such that they could not do right ". In the upper plan, the following inscription (from re-use in the 16th century)): Livro dos recibos da Confraria de nossa Snra. da Sée de Coimbra do anno de mil e quinhentos e trinta e nove até o anno de 1576. On both sides of the leaf, it preserves a fragment of the Book of Laws or the seven departures, by Alfonso X the sage (1221-1284), composed in ancient Portuguese, two columns, Gothic letter, with red epigraphes, being legible several passages of the following laws (are indicated only the first and last words of each excerpt): 1º fólio (recto), 1ª coluna, Partida V, Título VII, Lei VI: […] de creer non caeria en esta pena sobredita [...] non der portagem. e ante que a demandem 2ª coluna (continuação): [...] os que am d’auer [...] demandar eles nem seus herdeiros. João Martins de Soalhães, Bishop of Lisbon (1294-1313), and D. Aimerico D'ébrard, Bishop of Coimbra (1279-† 1295), make their attorneys, respectively, D. João António, Archdeacon of Coimbra, and Pedro Durão, abbot of Church of S. Miguel D'anriade, in order to deliver the properties that had already concerted to exchange. D. João gives up the heritages of Mogofores, Condeixa and Ventosa, and D. Aimerico the Couto de Cavanhão ( "Caffanham ") and the estates of Cercosa, Bordonhos and São Vicente. Additionally, the Bishop of Lisbon constitutes Lourenço Peres and Domingos Durão his attorneys to receive the properties that the Bishop of Coimbra should deliver. Document dated from Coimbra, 13 April 1294. Public sign of the notary Miguel Airas, public notary of the city of Coimbra, formed by the letters (MCLIS), by Michaelis. MANUSCRITOS.- BRAGANÇA E VINHAIS.- Carta de doação.- Século XII (1159).- 1 f.; 295x400 mm. Manuscript on parchment. Letter of donation by which Fernando Godins donates to the monastery of San Martín de Castanheira (or Castañeda), in the land of Sanabrian, the Bishopric of Astorga (Lion), the properties it inherited from its parents, located in Rabal (Bragança) and Vilar de Ossos (Vinhais). Beautiful document of the early days of nationality, in primitive Gothic calligraphic letter, presenting a chrismon on the left bank of the first three lines (reproduced in vol. 2 of Elucidário de Viterbo, p. 643b, attachement "XP"), a small sign in front of the subscription in the notary, "Petrus qui notuit ", and another larger, centered and flanked by the lists of confirmatives and witnesses, in rosette, with a cross in the centre, possibly the author of the donation. . Document published in T. 3 (1910, pp. 263-264) of the Archeologico-Historicas of the district of Braganza, of the abbot of Baçal, to the time belonging to the "notary of the Figueiredos, in Braganza" and in possession of Francisco de Moura Coutinho. It is, of course, one of the oldest documents we are aware of, referring to the toponyms and properties of the Braganza district. Provenance: Collection Manuel Empis de Lucena.
