Set consisting of two letter copiers belonging to the Embassy of Portugal in Catalonia (Barcelona), next to Archduke Charles of Habsburg, during the war of Succession of Spain (1701-1714), being Ambassador D. João de Almeida Portugal (1663-1733), 2nd Count of Assumar. The first volume (287 p.) has the following inscription, from the time, in the upper binder of the binding: Diary that starts with on 28 July 1705. The documents cover the period from 28 July 1705 to 28 February 1706. The second volume (380 p.), presents the following inscription, of the time, in the endpaper: Copeador das cartas que escreveu o Exmo. Sr. Embaix[ad]or. para os Ministros que se achão nas Cortes dos Alleados escrito em Barcelona ao prim[eiro] de Junho de 1711 [a 21 de Junho de 1712]. The two volumes, in addition to transcribing letters and other official papers, include numerous entries of almost daily events, which gives it a remarkable documentary interest. Both entire parchment binding, exhibit some damage to the covers, with serious flaws in the parchment. The documents are, however, all in very good condition.
