MANUSCRITO.- CASTELO BRANCO, Camilo.- Carta autógrafa (rascunho).- Século XIX (1885).- 2 f. (3 p.); 25 cm Handwritten letter (draft, without any erasures) addressed to King D. Luís I (His Majesty) of Portugal. In three pages (58 lines), Camilo uses his vast range of literary resources, with a touch of bitterness, to thank the king for the granting of the title of 1st Viscount of Correia Botelho, created by King D. Luís I on June 18, 1885. “If I were aware of my last hours of life, I would feel bitter sorrow at dying without Your Majesty having granted a demonstration of esteem to my long and undeserved literary task of forty years.” Further on: “Your Majesty ennobled me precisely when my pilgrimage is on its final day. The award will no longer serve as an incentive to reach culminating points…”. Document dated São Miguel de Seide, July 2, 1885, signed Viscount of Correia Botelho
