A manuscript on parchment, probably a Sunday Lectionary, in Iberian Gothic Textualis Formata (Rotunda) script, with rubrics in red and more than two hundred filigreed initials in blue and red. From the list of saint's feast days and festive days on the front of the first folio, it can be safely deduced that the codex was intended for worship in the Archdiocese of Toledo; it includes the feasts of Saint Ildefonso, Archbishop of Toledo, the Translation of Saint Eugene, Archbishop of Toledo, the day and Translation of Saint Leocadia, and the Dedication of the Holy Church of Toledo. The Spanish origin is reinforced by the presence of a note in Castilian Spanish, in 17th-century handwriting, written in the foot of folio 44, where the prayer for the Vigil of Saint James was crossed out: “esta oracion esta en el libro de Vispera y esta de este libro no vale = y la capitula esta tanbien en el libro de Visperas”. Codex with several corrections and alterations that reveal extensive use. The writing is datable to the mid-16th century, with a probable reformulation of the entry relating to the Feast of the Translation of Saint Eugene (f. 35v), an event that occurred in 1565, and the addition (on f. 56v bis) of the text relating to the Translation of Saint Leocadia, whose relics were taken to the Cathedral of Toledo in 1587. The volume is bound in a robust contemporary binding, with significant wear, the spine remade and new parchment endpapers; thick wooden covers coated in leather, with metal applications: metal clasp (missing the clip), reinforcement of the covers and corners; four circular bosses (one missing) and two umbilical bosses in each cover.
