[1750].- 143, [1] p.; 23 cm.- E. The original edition of the Treaty of Madrid, whereby the crowns of Portugal and Spain decide, by mutual agreement, to definitively establish and "de jure" the borders of the territories of South America which, in large part, already occupied and detained "de facto" (with The exception of the Colonia del Sacramento, which is attributed to Portugal). To this purpose, it begins by transcribing all the documents historically relevant to the new agreement, namely the bull Inter Cætera of Pope Alexander VI of 4 May 1493 (p. 53 to 58), the Treaty of Tordesillas, of 7 June 1494, now printed by the first Time (P. 59 to 79), the instrument of the office held in Zaragoza on 22 April, 1529, better known as the Zaragoza Agreement (p. 80 to 110), the provisional Treaty of Lisbon, of 7 May 1681 (p. 111 to 125) and the Treaty of Utrecht of 6 February 1715 (p. 126 to 143). With the Treaty of Madrid (p. 2 to 51), which integrates 26 articles, the boundaries of Brazil as we know today are practically defined. The edition is printed on high quality paper and grammage, and the face is of black and red composition. Exemplary with some imperfections that do not affect their integrity, namely: Cover sheet with three stamps (two erased and the third illegible) and five tiny central worm cuts (on the text); The following two leaves with slight stains; worm cuts, sometimes deep in the upper margin of most leaves (in most cases limited to one hole), without affecting the text; Stamp on the back of the last leaf: School and torpedo services. Entire caf binding of the time, a little tired and with signs of worm work on the spine. Palau, 339297. Sabin, 96515 and 96546. Borba de Moraes, p. 866. 198 Robert Bosch. Brasiliana Itaú, p. 494. MANUSCRITO - RECEITUARIO BRAZILICO
Em Roma aos 3 de Janeiro de 1762.- Século XVIII (1762).- 444, [51] p.; 19 cm.- E. Document without indication of authorship, of the greatest interest to the knowledge of the traditional Brazilian Pharmacopeia, containing, surely, more than a thousand recipes of the whole species and for all evils. The work, organized as intended to be published, consists of a face, a prologue "to the Reader" (2 p.) and another "to the doctor or surgeon" (4 p.), with three warnings. The following are 433 pages of recipes, with successive alphabetic ordinations, indexed for purposes or symptoms. In the end, a copious index that occupies the last 50 pages. Much of the document appears to be by the same hand (at least from P. 1 to 379 and index). In the archives of the company of Jesus, in Rome, there is a similar manuscript (ref ª. Opp. 17), although formally distinguished, described as medical form: Manuscript attributed to the Jesuits and found in an ark of the church of San Francisco de Curitiba (https://www.obrasraras.fiocruz.br/media.details.php?mediaID=279, access in 03/11/18, information provided by Heloísa Meireles Gesteira, researcher of Museum of Astronomy of Rio de Janeiro, to whom we thank).
XXXXVIII. [1748].- [40], 444 [aliás 442] p., 1 tabela desdobr.: 1 retrato, XVIII [aliás 20] gravuras desdobr.; 20 cm.- E. José Fernandes Alpoim (1700-1765) was born in Viana do Castelo and in 1738 traveled to Brazil where he was distinguished as an architect and military engineer, having reached the rank of brigadier. In Rio de Janeiro he taught in the artillery and fortification courses for which he wrote two treatises: Examination of Gunners (Lisboa, 1744) and fire test (Madrid, 1748). The edition is illustrated with a portrait of Gomes Freire de Andrade (1685-1763), Governor of Rio, to whom the work is dedicated, engraved by Olivarius Cor (E. Soares, History, p. 180 and N º 500), an allegorical vignette at the beginning of the dedicatory and 20 unfolding engravings, Numbered from I to XVIII (from the engravings II and XI there are two different proofs) authored by José Francisco Chaves (E. Soares, History, p. 171). Especially enigmatic figure XVII presenting the subscription: José Franc. Keys fecit-Rio 1749. This last indication has led some historians and bibliographers to sustain the hypothesis that the engraving (and even the edition) may have been opened in Rio de Janeiro, a controversial affirmation that until today remains unsubstantiate. Paging displays an error: from P. 372 it passes to p. 375, without any hiatus on the text or in the notebook. Specimen a little trimmed, but clean, preserving all the engravings well folded. XVII print with reinforcement in the fold; Picture and some engravings lightly damaged by the trim. Entire calf binding of the season, slightly tired, with traces of moth work (without affecting the crumb), preserving the original guards, red label and four ribs on the spine. Inocêncio, IV, p. 326. Borba de Moraes (1983), p. 25/26 (These Two famous and rare works by Alpoym constitute a veritable "bibliographic puzzle "). Army Library, 324.
