Edição original de uma obra clássica da historiografia açoriana. O Pe. António
Cordeiro (1641-1722), natural de Angra de Heroísmo, baseou-se no manuscrito,
então inédito, do Pe. Gaspar Frutuoso (c.1522-c.1591), Saudades da Terra, que se
encontrava na livraria do Colégio dos Jesuítas de Ponta Delgada (actualmente na
Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional de Ponta Delgada). Dividida em nove livros, a
obra não se refere apenas aos Açores, mas também às ilhas Canárias, a Cabo Verde,
à Madeira e a Porto Santo. Exemplar levemente empoeirado e com ocasionais
cortes de traça menores, todos marginais. Encadernação da época, inteira de

Reimpressão em conjunto das décadas IV, V (tomo I), VI (tomo II), VII, VIII e IX (tomo III), de Diogo do Couto (1542-1616), cronista
e guarda-mor da Torre do Tombo. A década IV, na realidade a primeira do autor, é a continuação da terceira de João de Barros. Só em 1615 foi
publicada a quarta década de Barros, passando então a existir duas décadas quartas, de autores diferentes que, embora se refiram ao mesmo
período, apresentam conteúdos distintos. A década IX foi aqui impressa pela primeira vez. A colação de cada um dos tomos é a seguinte:
I - [32], 605, [1 br.] p.; II - [14], p. 607 a 931, [1 br.], 75, [1 br.] p.; III - [16], 625 p. Os tomos I e II encadernados num só volume. Vestígios
de trabalho de traça na margem interior das últimas quatro folhas do tomo III. De resto, um exemplar levemente aparado, mas muito limpo,
conservando margens equilibradas. Encadernações inteiras de carneira, da época, diferentes, com sinais de trabalho de traça nas lombadas.

A reprint together of the reports IV, V (volume I), VI (volume
II), VII, VIII and IX (volume III) by Diogo do Couto (1542-
1616), chronicler and custodian of Torre do Tombo. The
decade IV, in fact the first of the author, is the continuation
of the third by João de Barros. It was only in 1615 that the
fourth report of Barros was published, and that there were
two fourth quarters of different authors who, although
referring to the same period, had different contents. The
nineteenth report was printed here for the first time. The
collation of each of the volumes is as follows: I - [32], 605, [1
br.] P .; II - [14], p. 607 to 931, [1 br.], 75, [1 br.] P .; III - [16],
625 p. The volumes I and II are bound in a single volume.
Traces of moth work on the inner margin of the last four
leaves of Volume III. In addition, a slightly trimmed copy, but
very clean, keeping balanced margins. Entire calf bindings of
the time, different with signs of moth work on the spines.

Original edition of a classic work of Azorean historiography. Father António Cordeiro (1641-1722), born in Angra de Heroísmo, was based on
the unpublished manuscript of Fr Gaspar Frutuoso (c.1522-c.1591), Saudades da Terra, which was in the library Of the Jesuit College of Ponta
Delgada (currently in the Public Library and Regional Archive of Ponta Delgada). Divided into nine books, the work does not refer only to the
