Año MDCCLIII-MDCCLVI.- [1753-1756].- 16 vols.: il.; 20 cm.- E Complete set consisting of 16 tomes or volumes, containing letters written by Jesuit missionaries from various parts of the world, namely: China, Cochinchina, India, Japan, Tibet, Egypt, Holy Land, Ethiopia, Turkey, Crimea, Armenia, Syria, Persia, Mexico, Canada and California), Central America (Panama) and South America (Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Argentina). The first 15 volumes contain 15 engravings, printed separately. Volume XVI, the last, includes 22 engravings (15 repeated), mostly fold-out maps, bound at the end (India, Rio Maranhão, Philippines, Santo Domingo, Lebanon, Holy Land, etc.). Palau refers to a total of 23 engravings in the 15 tomes, with the following note: "Nuestro ejemplar tenia 23 laminas rediviidas en varios tomos todas las quales se repiten en el vol. XVI." The volumes all exhibit slight foxing (rarely strong), some stains, and the following most significant imperfections: volume II: tear without loss of support on leaf 137/138 (S1); volume V: last leaf mirrored and stained; volumes IX and X: some wormholes on the inner margin of the endpapers and adjacent leaves; volumes IX and XV: one cover with damage (fault) in each volume. Contemporary bindings, entirely of parchment, with those of volumes VI, VIII, and XVI being slightly different. Palau, 46343 (the collection of 16 volumes corresponds exactly to that listed by Palau; therefore, eight engravings are likely missing from the first 15 volumes and one from the 16th and final volume).
