Curiously and inexplicably, not only is there no reference to Camões, but the licenses also give it the title “Historia do descobrimento da India em verso”. The translator himself, Friar Tomé de Faria, archbishop of Lisbon and bishop of Targa, in his dedication to the Kingdom of Portugal, declares that he applied himself to putting into verse the most notable deeds of the Portuguese, which others had written in prose.
