Rare collection of eight views of Vila Nova de Gaia and four of Porto (plus a frontispiece), by Cesário Augusto Pinto de Araújo Cardoso de Mendonça (1825-1896). Complete set, consisting of the following non-coloured lithographs: album de doze vistas por Cesario Augusto Pinto (frontispício); I - Castello de S. João da Foz; II - A Cantareira; III - Sampaio (Caza do Snr. Anthero); IV - Gaya; V - Porto; VI - Villa Nova; VII - Serra do Pilar; VIII - Seminario; IX - Perspectiva do Seminario; X - O Freixo; XI - A Pedra Salgada; XII - Arnellas. All prints have the same subscription: C. A. Pinto del. —Lith. by J.C.V.Vª Nova Porto 1848 [the last one 1849]. Of particular note are the eight views of Vila Nova de Gaia, which historian António Conde considers “ o melhor e mais harmonioso e fidedigno conjunto que conhecemos de imagens antigas gaienses” (the best and most harmonious and reliable set of ancient images from Gaia that we know). Very clean set (no booklet covers), covered in a recent binding, full red morocco (signed Victor Santos), with engraving on the front cover and protective case. Not mentioned in the bibliographies consulted.
