A silver and silk thread embroidered green silk binding. Both plans with beaded and bullion knot stitch embroidered vegetal motifs. On the higher plan, the coat of arms of Portugal; on the lower plan, a bird holding a branch (?) in the beak. Golden leaves cutting. A handled copy with a deep bookworm cut that affects the last 30 leaves and spine (with weak joints).

L'ÉVEQUE, Henri.- Costume of Portugal.- [London: Colnaghi and Edmund Lloyd, 1812-1814].- [1, 52] f.: [50] gravuras color.; 35 cm.- E. Henri l ' Éveque (1769-1832), painter, watercolourist, traveller and writer, a native of Geneva, has been several times in Portugal, graphically recording, among others, numerous episodes of the French invasions. Its Costume de Potugal is considered the most beautiful book of Portuguese customs published during the 19th century and an important source for the iconography of the Portuguese outfit of its time. No cover leaf, that was never printed, editing consists of a leaf with the title, followed by another with a printed dedication to counselor, Minister and Secretary of State Antonio de Araújo de Azevedo, 1st Count of Barca (1754-1817) and a third leaf with the index of the engravings in Portuguese (second and third leaves are missing in this copy , as indeed in many others). Followed by 50 numbered, hand coloured aquatints, interspersed by 52 leaves with bilingual texts, in English and French, descriptive of their images. The engravings are very clean and well preserved; engraving No. 39 presents the outer margin a little shorter. Ex-libris of Mario Carmona. Recent half brown chagrin entire binding with an exquisite gold decoration between raised bands. Duarte de Sousa, 422.

A Notebook, pencil and pen, with sketches and drawings (some watercoloured), architectural interior details, including capitals, Corbels, pediments, pedestals and other sculptural elements. Some pages with notes in Italian and others in Castilian. Offer inscription on the flying guard by Tito de Noronha to José Maria Nepomuceno (lot no. 2276 auction catalogue Nepumoceno, 1897). Slight handling and occasional tears but no lack of support. Entire flexible vellum binding of the time.

The author (1713-1765), a French mathematician, geometer and astronomer, has an asteroid and a moon crater with his name. An illustrated edition with XIV engravings borchures, all very clean and neatly folded, surely by the translator himself (1727-1818). An entire calf binding of the time. Inocêncio, IV, p. 72.

The farriers new guide
Second Edition of a book on the craft of farrier, which would be very successful, judging by the eight issues published within 18 years after the first, dating from 1720. The first part is illustrated with a fold-out engraving, next to the face leaf, and seven engravings with various aspects of anatomic horse. The second part, with face leaf and own paging is not illustrated. Copy with slight acidity, restored binding, preserving both the original plans (restored spine) with concentric rectangles decoration.

Authentic memoirs concerning the Portuguese Inquisition
Work that includes several references to the earthquake of 1755, usually attributed to the Scottish historian Archibald Bower (1686-1766) who was a member of the society of Jesus and, later, embraced the Church of England. Bower is also the author of a history of the Popes, in 7 volumes (London, 1748-66). Copy with slight acidity but complete and solid; manuscript possession (signature) of the time on the title page (James Wylie). Entire calf binding.

Second Edition, including the Chronicles of count D. Henrique, Kings D. Afonso Henriques, D. Sancho I, D. Afonso II, D. Sancho II, D. Afonso III, D. Dinis I, D. Afonso IV, D. Pedro I and D. Fernando I. The first edition dates from 1600 (Lisbon, Pedro Crasbeeck), and the Chronicle of King D. João I, which is not included in the present Edition, were printed in 1643 (Lisbon, António Álvares). Copy slightly trimmed, with slight acidity and handling; bookworm cut on the top margin of the last 50 leaves; scratched manuscript possession mark (and small label) on the title page and occasional underlining of the time. Layard (1817-1894), a traveler, English archaeologist, historian and politician, was born in Paris and became famous for having discovered the ruins of the historic city of Nineveh on ancient Assyria (now Iraq) on the banks of the Tigris. The organisation of each of the volumes is as follows: I-XXX, [2], 399 p.: il., 14 engravings, 1 bochure map; II-XII, 495 p.: il., 12 engravings. In the first volume, the Nimroud folding plant with smudges and a highlighted section without lack of support. An entire calendered Morocco bindings of the time with slightly fatigued spines, showing both volumes skin tags on the back covers with the following gold engraved inscription: This volume is respectfully presented to the Revd. Buisson, 1801.- 2 vols.: 1 gravura desdobr., 1 mapa desdobr.; 19 cm.- E. A very popular work but full of inaccuracies, attributed to Jean François de Bourgoing (1748-1811). The organisation of the two volumes is as follows: I-[4], VIII, 268 p.: 2 engravings brochures; II-[4], p. 260 the first volume includes an engraving near the title page (representing the mouth of the Tagus River and the Belém Tower) and a map of Portugal. Copy slightly handled and with some acidity, notably on the Tagus engraving; signed title pages (and half title page of the first volume): João Batista de Lara. Slightly fatigued 19th century bindings with the spine of the second volume rebuilt. The current edition is not referred by Duarte de Sousa.

It was the meant to educate the Brazilian farmers and consists of 11 volumes (10 of Grower Farmer and one of Creator Farmer). The set consists of the following volumes: Volume i. Carpinetti (1740-1800) was a disciple of Vieira Lusitano and is considered one of the best engravers of his time. The volume in oblong format, consists of a cover page, another with a warning, two leaves with "illustração aos mappas das Provincias de Portugal" and seven maps intaglio engraved (taille douce), respectively: Patriarchate of Portugal, Province of Entre Douro and Minho, Province of Trás os Montes, Province of Beira, Province of Estremadura, Province of Alentejo and Kingdom of Algarve. Duysend and a woodblock engraving on page 100. The copy belonged to the library of Camilo Castelo Branco and presents his possession signature on the guard leaf : CCBrº. (below, a pencil annotation: Lisboa, Dezbro. de 1883 - - Leilão da Livraria do Sr. Camº. Cast. Brº. - nº do catal. 515). A fatigued binding of the time (damage to head of spine and joints weak) with square and rectangular with medallions on the plans which bear at the centre an unidentified monogrammatic supra-libros with intertwined VDSA initials.
