Third Edition, not illustrated, of the book by Portuguese Jesuit missionary (1609-1677) that having departed to the East in 1634 came to die in Beijing in 1677. The work, originally entitled "Twelve Excellencies of China" was only published in Portugal in 1957. The manuscript, which would partly catch fire, was taken to France by Father Couplet and later handed to Cardinal d 'Estrées, in Rome, for publication. The Edition includes, at the end, an Abrégé de la vie et de la mort du R. Pere Gabriel de Magaillans.../fait par le R. Pere Louis Buglio, son Compagnon (An Abstract of the life and death of Father R.
