From the several pieces that should be highlighted, the Namban Cabinet illustrating the cover (lot 581) cannot be overlooked – a remarkable example among several other exceptional pieces of quality and national and international interest, which we call broadly by Lusiada Art.
Commissioned art pieces in the time of the Portuguese Discoveries from Africa to the Far East – a crossover between Portuguese art and culture and art and culture, beliefs, traditions, styles and craftsmanship of India (Indo-Portuguese Art), Ceylon (Singhalese-Portuguese Art), China (Chinese-Portuguese Art) or Japan (Namban Art) – to name just a few countries with which we closely related to since the 16th century.
In the field of Oriental Art, it is still worth mentioning either the Censer with cover, Qianlong period (1736-1795), cloisonné metal (lot 451) or the Fish-Bowl, Jiaqing period (1796-1820), Chinese porcelain (lot 441).
Within the Portuguese Art we draw your attention to the glowing oil painting by José Malhoa (1855-1933) titled “Beach tents with figures” (lot 169); the Brazilian rosewood Centre table, 17th c. (lot 97); and the Pair of earrings set with brilliant cut pear-shaped diamonds (lot 268).
