Cadell and W. Davies, 1818.- 2 vols.: il.; 37 cm.- B. The author was Lieutenant-Colonel in the British Army, with the same military rank in the Corps of Engineers of Spain. In the first volume intended to give an overview of the history of Portugal, while the second seeks to provide wide range of local information that might be useful on the one hand, to the military, and on the other to travelers and other readers. The work can be considered as one of the most extensive typographic, in its style. The first volume (XIV, 607 p.) Is illustrated with four hand colored aquatints representing as many degrees of torture of the Inquisition, two numismatic engravings and 14 watercolor maps and plans of towns and troop movements. The second volume (XVI, 203 p.) Features over 55 aquatints representing the views of Portuguese locations. The second volume also includes a double engraving of Alcacer do Sal, not recorded in the index but reported by Tooley with nº 25. Complete copy without trim, with occasional slight acidity, mainly confined to the pages of text. Prints of Faro and Ponte de Lima with tears no lack of support. Half-morocco latter bindings.
