Feyto pelo lice[n] | ciado Gregorio Marti[n]z Caminha...- Coymbra, por Ioam da Barreyra & Ioã Aluarez. M. D. XLIX. [1549].- [4], xxviij, [2], xxij, xxx f.; 20 cm.- E. Gregório Martins Caminha, a 16th-century Portuguese jurist about whom biographical details are scarce, was probably a native of Lisbon and was a lawyer at the Court of Appeals during the reign of King D. João III. This is the original, and rarest, edition of his Magna Carta, a compilation of 37 libels (models of petitions, contracts, and forms) intended to assist lawyers and magistrates in their work, especially in the courts. Anselmo records five editions from the 16th century alone, with four more known from the 17th century, four from the 18th century, and five from the 19th century. The copy is somewhat worn and slightly browned, but complete and solid. The title page is dusty, with a small antique ownership and restored outer corners; some old annotations and signs of reading, especially extensive on the verso of the title page (which is blank). The 19th-century binding has a black morocco spine, showing some wear. Anselmo, 266. Biblioteca de D. Manuel II, 79. BNP does not register any copy.
