Sir John Soane (1753-1837), important English architect, born in Goring-on-Thames (Oxfordshire), known for his neoclassical style. Soane, a member and professor of the Royal Academy of Arts, also a member of its counterparts in Parma and Florence. His main work was the reconstruction of the Bank of England, a building that was demolished and rebuilt between 1925 and 1939. In 1831, Soane was awarded the degree of knight (Knight Bachelor) by King William IV. First edition of the author's first book, illustrated with 47 steel engravings representing plans, sections and elevations of his projects. Slightly handled copy, with a slight water stain (tide) on the lower margin of almost the entire volume; an engraving (plaque 20) with a tear repaired with a rough patch (on the verse), without lack of support. Half paper binding, from the period, a little worn, with crumpled corners. Harris & Savage (British Architectural Books), 842.
