MANUSCRIPTS.- D. AFONSO V, King of Portugal.- Royal charter.- 15th century (1478).- 1 f.; 243 x 330 mm. Manuscript on parchment, in Joanine cursive Gothic script. Decree of King D. Afonso V establishing a refuge for prisoners in Vila Nova de Portimão. In order to prevent the inhabitants of the town from abandoning it, due to the entry of “navios contrários” the Kingdom of Algarve, King D. Afonso V granted the refugees who continued to live in Portimão for the following 10 years, the privileges and freedoms enjoyed by the refugees of the Marvão estate. Document dated Évora, October 14, 1478. Autograph signature: “yo El Rey”. Clerk: João da Fonseca. Parchment with slight stains, but generally well preserved, with traces of the green and white silk braid. Provenance: private collection.
