Rare translation of one of the best-known works by a scholar born in Spalato (1450-1524), in Dalmatia (today Split, Croatia), who lived the last years of his life in isolation to dedicate himself to the study of Theology. It is also an important 16th century Portuguese species, with an interesting xilo-typographic arrangement on the title page, of which there are two variants (see BN, 495/496). The present copy appears, however, to be a mix of both, as it has the last page numbered 295 and a single section c. Copy a little cropped and handled; old scratched ownership and small ink stain on title page; last page with rough restoration on the verso, slightly affecting the text (on the recto) and several inscriptions and scribbles on the verso. 17th century (?), full sheepskin binding, with some damage to the spine, but recoverable.
