John Herschel died aged 79 and is buried in Westminster, next to Charles Darwin. Ownership manuscripts on title page: Coll. Aug. Olyssip. 1857.; Ex-libris G. Blake(?). Lightly handled copy, with slight browning, especially in the final prints, of which four are fold-out. Binding with reconstructed spine (in cloth) and covers covered in original blind-decorated cloth. Houzeau-Lancaster (1964), III, coll. 1641.
