PEDRO, D. (Conde de Barcelos).- NOBILIARIO | DEL CONDE DE BARCELOS | DON PEDRO | Hijo del Rey Don Dionis | de Portugal | Traduzido castigado y | con nuevas ilustraciones de varias notas | por Manuel de Faria y Sousa Cavallero | dela Orden de Christo i de | la Casa Real...- Madrid: Alonso de Paredes, 1646.- [26], 403 p., col. 404 a 725, [12, 1 br.] p.: 1 portada gravada; 30 cm.- E. D. Pedro, Count of Barcelos (1287-1354), natural son of King D. Dinis I, a great figure of medieval peninsular culture. We are indebted to him for compiling the songs of Galician-Portuguese troubadours, the “Crónica geral de Espanha”, from 1344 and the “Livro de linhagens” which we find here in its second printed edition (the first was published in Rome in 1640 ). The present edition includes notes by João Batista Lavanha (p. 403 to col. 513), Marquis of Montebelo (col. 514 to 609), Álvaro Ferreira de Vera (col. 610 to 657) and Manuel de Faria e Sousa (col. 658 to 725). The frontispiece is copperplate printed and features an architectural framework, with two allegorical figures and the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal (subscription: Petrus de Villafranca sculps.). The 13 preliminary pages between the engraving and the text contain: Licencias, fe de errata e summa de la tassa (f. 1); La approvacion del Señor don Geronimo Mascareñas... (f. 2); Warnings (f. 3f.); Praise (f. 3v. to f. 6v.); dedication Al Señor D. Francisco Antonio de Alarcon... (f. 7); Discurso de la Familia de los Ocañas Alarcones (f. 8); Prologo (f. 9 a 13). This is followed by paginated text in one column up to p. 403 and from here the numbering becomes two columns. On the verso of the O2 folio begin the tables (surnames, titles, manner houses, etc.) that occupy a total of six pages, followed by a last blank page. We think that sheet 2 (La aprovacion del Señor don Geronimo Mascareñas...), since it does not have a signature and is interspersed between signatures ¶1 and ¶2, could be a matter of a later insertion. Slightly cropped specimen, with slight handling and light browning; last four leaves with irregular outer margin; last leaf with marginal wormholes affecting two index letters. The cover retains good margins and some freshness. Contemporary binding, fully parchment, a little worn, but recoverable, missing the free endpapers(?), preserving the four original bindings. Inocêncio, VI, p. 373. Samodães, 2367. Palau, 133211.
