Rare first edition of one of the most important works by Antonio de Herrera (1549-1625), historian and chief chronicler of Spain, who prevailed until the 19th century as one of the main sources for the history of Hispanic conquests in the New World. Slightly cropped copy, with the last preliminary leaf (¶4) carefully reproduced by hand and missing folio Ggg4, which should have contained the colophon with three lines and a blank verso. Lower margin of title page reconstituted and occasional light stains. Provenance: lot no. 347 from auction no. 31 of Pedro de Azevedo, March 1999 (the same copy). Recent binding, full sheepskin, with blind decorated covers and spine. Palau (114283) claims to be «libro buscado y raro».
