The name of the author (1628-1702), a French Jesuit, born in Paris, is only indicated at the end of the dedication to King Louis XIV. First edition of a work that, according to the author himself in the “avertissement”, was based on various accounts of the period, including that of Friar João de Lucena and Fernão Mendes Pinto. Includes a fold-out map “Carte pour la vie de St. François Xavier...”, by Sanson d’Abbeville and a large vignette (100x135 mm), representing the Saint in his evangelizing activity.
