First French translation (by Samuel de Broë) of a classic work of Spanish-American historiography, the first edition of which was published just seven years earlier. The work acquired great popularity, having been reprinted in numerous editions and translations that followed one another over a period of more than two centuries. Antonio de Solis (1610-1686), was born in Alcalá where he did his first university studies; later he was appointed official of the Secretary of State by Filipe IV and chief chronicler of the Indies by D. Maria of Austria. Illustrated edition with two maps (Mexique Environs du Lac Mexique) and 12 copperplate prints, 10 of which are folders. Complete and clean copy, keeping the engravings well folded.
