MANUSCRITOS.- LIVROS DE CARGA do navio S. Gualter da Bahia para Lisboa.- Século XIX (1817-1821).- 3 vols.; 21 e 24 cm.- E. Set consisting of three cargo books from the ship S. Gualter, “feito na Bahia, com as melhores madeiras”, owned by the wealthy Guimarães merchant Félix Martins da Costa (†1827), established in Bahia, but with wholesale business as well in the states of Pernambuco, Maranhão and Rio de Janeiro. Two volumes are dated from 1817 and one from 1821. The first (38 f.), somewhat disjointed, has the following title, gold engraved on the front cover; SG Lº da carga do Navio S. Gualter da Bahia pª Lisboa Comandante Estevaõ, Joze, Alves, 1817. The second (40 f.) and the third (56 f.), with similar titles, recorded in the same way. They record the cargo, the name of the holders and their respective values, as well as the price of freight. We highlight the main goods: sugar boxes, tobacco rolls and bales, cotton sacks, cachaça barrels, tallow sheets, dry and salted leathers, etc. The three volumes with different formats, covered in contemporary bindings, fully red shagreen, slightly worn, with engraving on the front covers, borders on all covers and smooth spines.
