Synodal Constitutions of the Diocese of Coimbra, reformed by D. Afonso de Castelo Branco (1522-1615), following the new guidelines issued by the Council of Trent (1545-1563). Next, as usual, is the Rules of Procedure for the officers of the ecclesiastical auditorium of the same diocese. Between the two species, we find a provision of the same bishop D. Afonso and with his seal, dated from Coimbra, 20 November 1592, not mentioned in the consulted bibliographies. Slightly trimmed but clean copy, probably washed and re-glued, with the House of Palmella monogrammed stamp on the title page. The two copies of the Constitutions existing in the BNP are mutilated; as for the two copies of the “Rules”, one is in poor condition with torn leaves affecting the text and the other is mutilated, half of which is handwritten. 20th century(?) full sheepskin binding, with a worn spine; new endpapers and ties.
