Prince Adalbert von Preussen (1811-1873) offers us a description of Brazil in the 1840s, with an expedition to the Amazon where he made contact with indigenous tribes. The first volume includes an introduction by Alexander von Humboldt and is illustrated with a lithograph close to the title page, depicting the author in explorer's garb and a map of the Bay of Rio de Janeiro (p. 210/211). The second, with two folding maps: one of the state of Rio de Janeiro (next to the title page) and another of the Amazon delta (p. 160/161). The collation of each volume is as follows: I - XVI, 338 p.: 1 engraving, 1 map; II - V, [1 br.], 337, [1] p.: 2 unfolding maps. Clean copy, uncropped, retaining the publisher's buckram bindings, slightly worn, as published. Duarte de Sousa, 644. Sabin, 162. Borba de Moraes, p. 14 (refers to only one map).
