Fifth Portuguese edition, published after the two with the same date of 1572 and previous editions by Manuel de Lyra, dated 1584 and 1591 respectively. Although with the indication “polo original antigo agora novamente impresso”, the edition completely disfigures, for reasons unknown to us, stanzas 36 (canto II), 99 (canto VIII), 71, 82 and 83 (canto IX). Copy a little cropped, with slight handling and slight foxing; outer margin of the title page reinforced on the verso; occasional minor stains; old ownership scratched on title page. It is, however, complete and, in general, reasonably preserved, matching exactly the description of the BNP copy. Twentieth-century binding, fully sheepskin, with patina and gold tooling on the spine, in keeping with the taste of the time.
