CARAMUEL LOBKOWITZ, Juan, O. Cist.- EXCELLENTISSIMA | DOMVS DE MELLO | AD IMPERATORIBVS | ROMANIS, CONSTANTINOPOLITANIS, | HISPANIS, FRANCIS, | SAXONIBVS, FRANCONIBVS, | SVEVIS, BAVARIS, | AVSTRIACIS; | A REGIBVS | CASTELLANIS, LEGIONENSIBVS | LVSITANIS, ALGARBICIS, | [...] | COMPOSITA; | Stylo Ioannis Caramuel Lobkovvitz.- Lovanii: Apud Everardvm De Witte Anno M DC XLIII, [1643].- [3], XLIII (i. é 44) f.: il.; 43 cm.- E. Monumental edition, of great graphic complexity, dedicated to D. Francisco de Mello (ca. 1575-ca. 1652), Huntmaster of the Kingdom, ambassador to France and governor of the Algarve, one of the forty noblemen who participated in the conspiracy that would come to evolve into the 1640 revolution. The edition, without the conventional title page, consists of a sheet with the title abbreviation in large calligraphed characters: EXCELMA Domus de MELLO, three chapter separators, eight typographic sheets and 34 family trees copperplate printed (with typographed text ), which seek to demonstrate the direct descent of the Mellos from Charlemagne to the Dukes of Parma. The copy was washed and treated, showing the following most significant imperfections: reconstitution of the lower margin of the first three leaves (without affecting the text); excessive trimming with loss of the last letter of the word MELLo (handwritten) on the first sheet and on two other separators; deep restorations on the outer margin of the last engraving and the last sheet (65x50 mm), with loss of seven lines of text. Recent full sheepskin binding (with a protective case), with gold ornamental borders on the covers, seven gold closed panels on the spine, patina in the manner of the period and a golden roulette on the squares. D. António Caetano de Sousa (História genealógoca, I, p. CCXV) has not seen any copy, as well as Manuel Bernardes Branco (Portugal e os estrangeiros, IV, p. 540), Azevedo Soares (Bibliographia nobiliarchica, 1975) or perhaps even Palau (43547). Edition not mentioned on the Portuguese catalogues usually consulted.
