Manuscrito musical espanhol do século XV [RITUAL DOS DEFUNTOS: manuscrito litúrgico com notação musical.- Século XV.- [23] f.; 27 cm.- E. Fragment of a parchment document consisting of two (?) married covers, the first without any information, the second presenting the following handwritten inscription (probably later): Cantus hinus [sic] libri | iuxtatitum [sic] Ecclesiæ | Tolletana Psalmus | [small decorative separator ] | ad uesperas antiphona | anno domino mccclii. The covers involve two sections of 10 and 11 leaves, containing part of matinas' first hour Latin texts, of the Office of the Deceased, with the following organization: Antiphon and invitatory psalm; first night: three antiphons with psalms, followed by three lessons (with responsories). Second nocturne: three antiphons with psalms, followed by lesson 4 (with responsories) and lesson 5 (with incomplete responsory). Iberian Gothic letter text (rotunda). Square and half-mensural black musical notation on pentagram (5 red lines). Decoration: 22 gold, blue and red illuminated initials (29 to 47 mm); 7 blue and red watermarked Iberian initials (±42 mm); 8 black vespasians initials (±40 mm); numerous small blue and red watermarked initials (1 line). The text, musical notation and decoration are attributable, with some certanty, to the second half of the fifteenth century and possibly to the Dominican custom. The inscription contained on the second cover does not correspond to the contents of the codex so that the use of the Archdiocese of Toledo is not confirmed. The relatively small format (portable) may indicate that this is a text intended to be transported and used by clergy or chaplains in funeral ceremonies or regular celebrations of the deceased, which occurred, either in its constituency ecclesiastical or conventual scope, whether in the chapel(s) adstrictto (s) to its functions. State of conservation: a document handled and abrasions harming some initials and several lines of text that, however, is readable in its almost complete integrity; three leaves with marginal support failures, without harming the text; some stains.
