A Brooch "Por Bem", chiseled gold cartouche, decorated with blue enamel and silver set with diamonds, Lisbon assay mark (1887-1937), LEITÃO & IRMÃO makers mark, Portuguese Note: the original model of this brooch was commissioned by D. Manuel II (1908-1910) King of Portugal at the house LEITÃO & IRMÃO as a gift to Queen Alexandra of England to celebrate his investiture into the Order of the Garter. This same brooch is now in the House of Braganza collection. In the 1930'/40' several exemplars were made by LEITÃO & IRMÃO as revivalism for the late King. vd.
