An Armchair, Lusíada, teak, scalloped top rail with carvings "Cartouche crowned with pierced heart surrounded by flowers and putti", stiles topped by "Nagas", arms finials "Fantastic animal", scalloped and carved apron "Flowers", canned back and seat, Indo-Portuguese branch, 16th/17th C., small restorations, traces of xylophages, small flaws and defects, Notes: this is a model of clear influence of the 16th C. Iberian models presumably produced for consumption in Goa due to the high percentage of similar chairs that are still in that territory - two at Bom Jesus Church, one at Rachol Seminar, one at Goa State Museum and two in the Rosália Abreu collection. Other exemplars are known: one at National Museum of Ancient Art, in Lisbon; one at the City Museum, in Lisbon; one at the Museum of Sacred Art, in Funchal; few others in private collections - vd.
