II (Catholiques Romains), VI (Peuples Idolâtres), VII ([première partie] Peuples Idolâtres), VII ([deuxième
partie] Peuples Idolâtres) e XII (second des Superstitions). O conjunto apresenta numerosas faltas
e imperfeições de difícil discriminação, sendo as seguintes as mais graves e aparentes.
Tomo I (desconjuntado): inclui 27 gravuras de plena página (frontispício + 26 grav., de acordo com o
índice), faltando-lhe as gravuras 4, 17, 21, 22 e 28 (todas duplas), corte de traça profundo afectando as
últimas 12 folhas e 3 grav.), leve mancha de água (de maré) no terço superior, junto ao festo; tomo II:
conserva todas as 33 gravuras (5 duplas), mas as 5 primeiras danificadas por manchas de água e cortes de
traça as últimas 20 folhas e 2 gravuras (restantes gravuras limpas, incluindo 3 duplas); tomo VI (sem
manchas nem cortes: faltam 7 gravuras das 27 que deveria conter (3, 5, 6, 13, 19, 23 e 26); tomo VII
(1ª parte): completo com as 44 gravuras, mas cerca de metade do volume e das gravuras danificadas por
fortes manchas de fungos e cortes de traça; tomo VII (2ª parte): completo com as 33 gravuras limpas e
sem cortes; tomo XII: completo com as 2 gravuras, corte de traça na margem inferior da primeira metade
e forte mancha de água e fungos na segunda metade. Boas encadernações da época, inteiras de carneira
racinée, com lombadas lisas.

A working copy with several faults and imperfetions, consisting of volumes I (Juifs et Chrétiens
Catholiques), II (Catholiques Romains), VI (Peuples Idolâtres), VII ([première partie] Peuples Idolâtres),
VII ([deuxième partie] Peuples Idolâtres) e XII (second des Superstitions). The set has numerous faults
and imperfections, difficult to discriminate. The most serious and visible are the following: Volume I
(disjointed): includes 27 full page engraving (frontispiece + 26 engravings accordingto index), lacking
engravings 4, 17, 21, 22 and 28 (all double), deep worm cut affecting the last 12 leaves and 3 engravings),
slight watertide stain in the upper third; volume II: prserves all the 33 engravings (5 double), but the 5
first ones are dameged by watertide stains worm cuts, the last 20 leaves and the 2 engravings (remaining
engravings, clean, including 3 double); volume VI (no stains or cuts: lacking 7 engravings of the 27 that
should contain (3, 5, 6, 13, 19, 23 and 26); volume VII (1st part): complete with the 44 engravings,
but about half of the volume and engravings damaged by heavy stains of fungi and worm cuts; volume
VII (2nd part): complete with the 33 engravings, clean and with no cuts; volume XII: complete with the
2 engravings, worm cut on the lower margin of the first half and heavy watertide stain and fungi on the
second half. Fine entire racinée calf bindings of the time with smooth spines.

grande erudição e o seu autor denuncia grandes estudos e
profundo conhecimento das coisas antigas. Os dois tomos
apresentam a seguinte colação: I - [8], 566, [38] p.; II - [8], 519,
[1] p. O primeiro tomo apresenta um belo retrato de S. Bento,
gravado a talhe-doce (no verso terceiro fólio). O segundo tomo,
impresso por Manuel de Carvalho, inclui um catálogo alfabético
das armas da nobreza do reino, compreendendo 310 famílias.
Exemplar levemente aparado, com alguma acidez, mas completo
e sólido, conservando o raro retrato. Encadernações do século
XX, Inteiras de carneira, levemente cansadas, com casas
fechadas a ouro nas lombadas. Samodães, 3107.

According to Innocent (V, p. 170) this is a work of great erudition and its
author reveals great studies and indepth knowledge of antiquities. The
two first volumes have the following collation: I - [8], 566, [38] p.; II -
[8], 519, [1] p. The first volume presents (on the back of the third folio)
a beautiful intaglio (taille-douce) portrait of St. Benedict. The second
volume, printed by Manuel de Carvalho, includes an alphabetical
catalogue of the coats of arms of the Kingdom’s nobility, comprising 310
families. A slightly
trimmed copy with
some acidity but
complete and solid,
preserving the rare
portrait. Slightly
fatigued and entire
calf 20th century
bindings with gold
closed houses
on the spines.
