Lancelot, Comte de.- Commentaires sur les memoires de Montecuculi, Généralissime des Armées, & Grand-Maître de l’Artillerie de l’Empreur.- A Paris: Chez Lacombe, Lejay, 1769.- 3 vols.: 1 frontisp., 43 gravuras desdobr.; 25 cm.- E Lancelot Turpin (1716-1793), a French writer and military man, participated in numerous campaigns, reaching the rank of field marshal. Raimondo Monteccoculi (1609-1680), in turn, was a celebrated general of the Holy Roman Empire. Turpin's commentaries are divided into three books; the first two form a true treatise on the Art of War, while the third constitutes an autonomous work entitled: Réflexions sur ce qu’il s’est fait dans les dernieres Guerres de Hongrois. The collation of the three volumes is as follows: I - [2], XXI, [1 br.], 397, [1 br.] p.: 1 front., 17 engrav.; II - 438 p.: engrav. 18-35; III - 523, [3] p.: engrav. 36-43. A copy with slightly browning stains, but generally clean, with all engravings neatly folded. Ex-libris of Lacerda Matos. Contemporary full sheepskin bindings, somewhat worn, with gilt edges, retaining the original marbled paper endpapers
