MARZIOLI, Francesco.- PRECETTI MILITARI | CONSACRATI | ALL’IMMORTAL NOME DEL | ALTEZA SERENISSIMA | DI | FERDINANDO MARIA | DVCA DELL’VNA E DELL’ ALTRA BAVIERA | [...] | COMPOSTI DI | FRANCESCO MARZIOLI | BESCIANO.- In Bologna: Per l’Erede di Domenico Barbieri. Apresso Gio. Francesco Dauico detto il Turrini. M. DC. LXXIII. [1673].- 166, [6] p.: il.; 37 cm.- E. Second edition, identical to the first published in 1670, of an important treatise on military art whose author (fl. 1670) is only known to have been a native of Brescia. The work is composed of 33 chapters on the use of the lance (with 17 engravings, 16 of which are double), 20 on the use of the musket (10 double engravings), 28 on infantry tactics (28 engravings) and 9 on the disposition of troops in battle (9 engravings). The work, dedicated to Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria (1636-1679), is illustrated with his portrait, along with the allegorical frontispiece and a remarkable set of 64 intaglio engravings with discontinuous numbering (1-17, 21-30, 33-46, 48-61, 64, 66, 68, 70, 72, 74, 77, 79, 81), most of which were printed separately. A clean copy, with some minor imperfections, namely: the first two engravings are slightly handled and restored, with minor damage to the lower outer corner of the title page; some marginal restorations on the first six pages of text. Otherwise, a clean and complete copy, with all engravings remaining very fresh and with good margins. Full parchment binding, not contemporary, with new endpapers.
