MANUEL, D. (Rei de Portugal).- Carta régia.- Século XV (1496).- 1 f.; 285 x 500 mm. Manuscript on parchment. Royal letter confirming the favour granted by King D. Afonso V to Diogo Lopes Lobo, stipulating that there should be no more than four privileged vassals in his towns of Alvito and Vila Nova. The confirmation from King D. Manuel, addressed to Dona Maria de Sousa (daughter of Diogo Lopes), also states that the inhabitants of Alvito and Vila Nova should pay jugada and oitava, except for the four vassals mentioned. The document from King D. Afonso V is dated October 6, 1453. The royal charter from King D. Manuel refers to another from King D. João II (of March 1492), dated October 6, 1496. The parchment is slightly handled but entirely legible, lacking the pendant seal. Autographed signature: elRey. Enclosed are two authentic certificates from the Torre do Tombo, preserving their respective stamp seals intact.
