José António de Sá (1756-1819), jurist and judicial magistrate born in Braganza, was a judge in Moncorvo, a judge of the Court of Appeal of Porto, and a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Lisbon. This manuscript, apparently unpublished and meticulously calligraphed, contains a detailed and ambitious plan or memorandum for the reform of the function and competence of the corregidor judges of the districts. Immediately following the title page, it presents an extensive index composed of 255 titles, developed over the following 400 pages. Ex-libris with the monogram ML (Matias Lima). Magnificent contemporary binding, entirely of "vieux rouge" shagreen, with some wear, with neoclassical gold ornamental borders on the covers and a smooth spine profusely gold tooling; in the centre of both covers, gold engraved, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal, on a crowned armillary sphere; marbled edges. The back cover has some imperfections (peeled covering) and weak joints requiring intervention.
