MANUSCRIPTS.- PENINSULAR WAR (Stuart de Rothesay, Sir Charles).- Correspondence addressed to Admiral George Cranfield Berkeley.- 19th century (1811-1812).- 21 documents. Sir Charles Stuart (Lord Stuart de Rothesay, 1779-1845) was envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary of His British Majesty, in Lisbon, member of the government of the Kingdom of Portugal during the Peninsular War and bearer of the Constitutional Charter granted by King D. Pedro IV; Sir Charles was also ambassador in Paris (twice) and in St. Petersburg. Set consisting of 21 letters addressed to Sir George Cranfield Berkeley (1753-1818), admiral of the British and Portuguese Navies and commander of the squadron at the “Lisbon Station”, which protected the Portuguese coast and the Tagus estuary during the Peninsular War, between 1810 and 1812. The letters, dated between June 1811 and July 1812, address a wide range of political and military subjects (10 letters with attachments or copies of other letters).
