Manuscript on parchment, in calligraphed Manueline cursive Gothic script. Letter by which King D. Sebastião, in his capacity as Governor and Perpetual Administrator of the Order and Chivalry of the Mastership of Saint James, grants lifetime letter patent to D. Manuel de Castelo Branco, nobleman of his House and professed knight of the said Order, of the High Alcalde of the town of Aljezur, as had been held by D. João de Castelo Branco, his father, upon whose death it had become vacant. Document dated Lisbon, June 11, 1575. Autograph signature: El Rey. Autograph signature: Francisco Coelho had it written. Clerk: Gaspar Gonçalves. Very clean document, with holes from the suspension of the pending seal of the Order of Saint James (missing). Provenance: private collection.
