The Book of Common Prayer is the book of daily and Sunday prayers of the Anglican Church, whose original and definitive edition was published in 1549, during the reign of Edward VI. The present edition, which results from the reform implemented in 1662, includes the daily morning and afternoon prayers, Communion and the litany; It also includes prayers to accompany special services, namely Baptism, Confirmation, weddings, funeral services, prayers for the sick, etc., as well as various readings from the Old and New Testaments. Title page engraved, cropped, mirrored and with a fault in the upper left corner, with small loss of image. The copy (lightly handled, but complete) is especially notable because it was probably bound by the London bookbinder Samuel Mearne (1624-1683), for the royal couple Charles II of England and Catherine of Braganza, featuring the crowned royal monogram, with two intertwined Cs (one inverted), engraved in gold on the covers (4) and on the spine, in the sections (6). In this regard, see: Database of Bookbindings British Library (https://www.bl.uk/catalogues/bookbindings/Results.aspx? SearchType=QuickSearch, acessed on February 2022). Provenance: armorial ex-libris of Alexander Duff, Duke of Fife (1849-1912) who married Princess Louise, daughter of the Duke of Wales, future King Edward VII, in 1889. Full sheepskin binding, a little worn, with loose joints, gilt edges and non-contemporary silk ties.
