MANUSCRITO.- ANDRADE, Bernardim Freire de (Tenente-General).- Cópia do processo.- Século XIX (1809-1810).- 1 vol. (cerca de 800 p.); 31 cm.- E. Bernardim Freire de Andrade (1759-1809), general officer of the Portuguese Army, born in Lisbon, assassinated during the Peninsular War. Authentic copy, at the request of José Gomes Freire de Andrade (Principal Freire who would become president of the Provisional Board), taken from the War Council process in which his brother, lieutenant general Bernardim Freire de Andrade, was sentenced and rehabilitated “atroz e barbaramente assassinado no dia 17 de Março de 1809, para ser prezentada a Vª. A. R. [o Príncipe Regente], cujo Regio conceito importa tanto à memória do defunto general e à honra da consternada família e outro sim outra cópia igual para ser guardada no Cartório da sua caza”. The request was the subject of an order dated January 28, 1810. The sentence determined that the lieutenant general's military conduct was not only irreproachable, but worthy of much praise. Volume with more than 800 pages, probably written in one hand. At the end, a closing statement dated from the State Secretariat for Foreign Affairs and War, March 12, 1810. Autograph signature: Gregório Gomes da Silva. Document with very slight browning, fully legible. A modest contemporary binding, with a sheepskin spine, without any label, with traces of wormholes.
