François Garsault (1691-1778), French artist, botanist and zoologist, born in Aix-en-Provence, member of the Paris Academy of Sciences. According to Mennessier de La Lance (I, p. 526), the original edition dates from 1741, followed by those from 1746 and 1755; dating from 1770 there are at least two (Despailly and the present), the collation of which is not precise. Copy slightly handled, preserving all the engravings (does not include any title or portrait), including plate XXIX (loose), not mentioned in the notice for its placement (verso of page ****8). Some wormhole in the lower margin of the last third of the volume, slightly affecting some engravings. Contemporary binding, full sheepskin, slightly worn, retaining the original marbled paper endpapers.
