Fr. Cristóbal de Fonseca (1550-1621), Spanish mystic writer, born in Toledo, professed in the convent of the Order of Saint Augustine in that city; contemporary of Cervantes and Lope de Vega, with whom he was related, he was provincial of the Order and prior of the convents of Segovia and Madrid. In 1602 he published in Lisbon a second part of the main work, with a slightly different title: “Segunda parte de la vida de Christo Señor Nuestro que trata sus milagros dele”. The title page, composed in black and red, includes a medallion with the effigy of Christ; on the back of the last sheet, another copperplate medallion, representing the Virgin (Mater Dolorosa). The text consists of two columns. Slightly trimmed but very clean copy. Bound in fine calf, undamaged, signed Sangorski and Sutcliff, London. Anselmo, 51. King D. Manuel II Library, 169.
