Friar Bartolomeu dos Mártires, O.P. (1514-1590), a prominent figure in the Portuguese sixteenth-century church, stood out in the third and last session of the Council of Trent (1562-1563), having been archbishop of Braga between 1559 and 1582. In 2001 he was beatified by Pope John Paul II and in 2016, canonized by Pope Francis. A classic work on catechetical themes, whose first edition was printed in Braga, in 1564, already reflecting the Tridentine orientations. This was followed by the editions of 1566 (Lisbon), 1574 (Coimbra), 1585 (Lisbon) and this one, the last one from the 16th century. Trimmed copy, with foxing, some handling and other imperfections, namely: small restoration on sheets B5 and B6; P8 sheet with more extensive restoration, affecting some letters near the inner margin; last two sheets with tangential trimming to the text.
