James Baillie Fraser (1783-1856), Scottish artist, watercolourist, diplomat and traveler, famous for the narratives of his travels in Asia Minor and India. Original edition of his mission to Persia in the winter of 1833-34, which involved a journey of more than 4000 km to Tehran (outward journey), illustrated with two steel-engravings, one at the beginning of each volume. Slightly loose binding copy, but clean, preserving the publisher's original binding, in gold-engraved canvas, a little worn, with some damage to the turn ins. Provenance: Roberto Gulbenkian Library.
