Arthur William Costigan is the pseudonym of Scottish officer James Ferrier (*1734) who assisted the Count of Lippe in the reform of the Portuguese Army, and was then known as Scottish Diogo. Second edition (counterfeiting?) of a set of letters dated 1778 and 1779, reporting the author's stay in Portugal. The original edition was published the previous year, also in London. The collation of each of the volumes is as follows: I - VII, [1 br.], 358 p.; II - IV, 322, [1, 1 br.] p. Specimen slightly handled and cropped; small stains on the lower margin of the first and last leaves of the second volume that presents the first section a little loose.
