MAJOR ANTÓNIO CÂNDIDO PEDROSO GAMITO -1806-1866 O Muata Cazembe GAMITO, Major António Cândido Pedroso.- O Muata Cazembe e os povos maraves, chévas, muizas, muembas, lundas e outros da Africa Austral: diario da expedição portugueza commandada pelo Major Monteiro, e dirigida aquelle imperador nos annos de 1831 e 1832.- Lisboa: Imprensa Nacional, 1854.- XXV, [1 br.], 501, [3] p.: il.; 22 cm.- E. The author (1806-1866), a native of Setúbal, was the second commander of the famous expedition to Cazembe, a region that now corresponds roughly to the former Katanga (D.R. of Congo) and part of Zambia. Illustrated edition with 22 separate lithographs, and-coloured and a fold-out map at the end, with the itinerary from Tete to Lunda, according to the proper index. The copy, with some stains of foxing, due to the quality of the paper, belonged to the naturalist, zoologist and politician José Vicente Barbosa du Bocage (1823-1907), born in Funchal and presents his signature on the cover page (J. V. B. du Bocage) as well as the label of his library (unfilled) glued to the flyleaf. Full flexible calf binding, signed Livraria Ferin Lisboa, gold tooled front cover, with a slightly discoloured spine. Inocêncio (I, p. 103).
