D. Luís de Meneses (1632-1690), 3rd Earl of Ericeira, a military and political man, born in Lisbon, was one of the most notable historians of the restoration of independence; commited suicide on 26 May 1690. First edition, the most appreciated and largest format, of this important title of Portuguese historiography, which reports the political-military events occurring in Portugal between 1640 and 1668. The colation of the two volumes is as follows: Volume I-[12], 908, [31, 1 Br.] P.: 1 frontispiece Engrav., 1 Portrait; Volume II-[20], 975, [1 Br.] P.: 1 frontispiece engrav. The first volume is of the second edition, with a date of 1710 (the first is 1679) and retains, not only the engraved frontispiece, but also the beautiful portrait of the author (signed Fred. Bouttats) that is missing in most specimens. The second volume dates from 1698 and was printed by Miguel Deslandes. Slightly trimmed, but clean specimen, maintaining the two very fresh frontispieces and portrait. Ownership manuscripts on the cover pages: Pinto (and two more scratched ownerships). Binding of the time, with the leather spines, a little tired and with signs of moth work, presenting on the gold engraved foot, the inscription: Archive of Joaquim Trigueiros de Aragão-[Idanha-A-Nova] (and Supra-libros of the same owner, engraved with gold to Centre of all plans).
