DOCUMENTO PERSA ILUMINADO (Illuminated Persian Document) Illuminated Persian Document.- 18th/19th C.- 28 l.: 7 Illuminations; 292 mm.- B. Fragment of a Persian document, composed of 28 leaves of an extensive collection of Choranic religious tales, translated from Arabic, with episodes of the life of the Prophet Muhammad and other saints, illustrated with seven illuminations of full page, represented hunting scenes. The work, difficult to date, is part of the Shafi'i tradition (chafeism), one of the four schools of jurisprudence of Sunism, the largest branch of Islam. The leaves, randomly assembled in a notebook, with text printed by xylographic process, come from several volumes of the original work (at least of volumes I and IV) and present different paging, not always in followed way (from P. 31 to P. 566). The illuminations, of high artistic quality (but not directly related to the adjacent text), retain the original colours with great freshness where gold predominates. Ex-Libris of D. Diogo de Bragança, Marquis of Marialva. Notebook with black paper cover, probably from the late nineteenth century. Cabral Moncada Auctioneers thanks Professor Sépideh Radfar, of the centre of Iranology of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, the invaluable information that conveyed us and allowed us to elaborate this summary description.
