Assembly consisting of 98 hand-coloured steel engravings, of the Musée Cosmopolite and Musée de Costumes series of the same Parisian publishing house. Represent traditional costumes of the following European countries: France (59 engravings, numbered from 2 to 63, with lack of engravings Nos 4, 22 and 42); Spain & Portugal (19 engravings, numbered from 1 to 20, with lack of engravings No 16); Germany (20 engravings, numbered from 1 to 20). Engraving No 7 (France) with duct tape restored tear on the back; occasional minor stains. Volume slightly handled, binding of the time, fatigued, with leather spine.

SURIREY DE SAINT-REMY, Pierre.- Memoires d’artillerie.- Troisiéme edition, beaucoup plus ample & plus complette que la seconde.- A Paris: Chez Rollin Fils, 1745.- 3 vols.: il.; 26 cm.- E. French General, born in Saint-Remy, the author (1645-1716) was grand master of artillery under Louis XIV. The work, published initially in 1692, was considered mandatory reference in the matter throughout the 18th century. The agenda of each one of the volumes is as follows: I-[16], LXIV, 338 p.: 1 engraved front, 1 picture, 59 engravings; II-[16], 400 p.: 106 engravings; III-[12], 468, [38] p.: 43 engravings. The total of engravings is 210, being 40 leaflets, some of large dimensions. Slight acidity at the beginning of the first volume; Tomo II with water and moisture stains (tidal stains) on the bottom half of the last 120 sheets, affecting some etchings, four of which exhibit smaller restoration on the back. Ownership manuscripts of the time on the three volumes: François de la Tour en Voivre. Complete Copy with all the engravings neatly folded, binding of the time, entire calf, fatigued, with signs of bookworm work the on spines.

Fr. Gaspar de S. Bernardino (16th century. XVI-ca. 1612, Franciscan, natural of Lisbon, left for India in 1601, returning to Portugal five years later. Margaret of Austria, wife of Philip III of Spain, has expressed interest in the account of the troubled return journey, so in 1609, the general minister of the Franciscans emits an instruction for this to be published. The voyage begins in Goa on 30 December 1605 and after a shipwreck in the Indian Ocean, passes through Persia, Iraq and Syria, where Fr. Gaspar was greeted in the Franciscan convent of Aleppo and ends on the island of Cyprus. In the end, the author says in the second [part] I will say the most of the journey, but unfortunately nothing else came to light, of the remaining three tomes that were foreseen. According to Inocêncio (III, p. 124) The work has been taken into account for many years. The frontispiece is entirely intaglio engraved (taille-douce) and is signed Bras Nunes Fecit (Ernesto Soares, História da gravura artística, 1375). Slightly trimmed Copy with ownership manuscript of the time scratched on the cover, causing some acidity and small support failures. Quinta das Lágrimas Stampings, on the cover and of M. Osorio C.-Quinta das Lágrimas, on the leaf 17f. Moreover, it is clean, solid and complete (only the title page features some minor spots). 19th-century, entire calf binding with a very fatigued spine. Palau, 290134. Ávila Perez, 7038. Salvá, 3818. Manuel Severim de Faria (1584-1655), scholar historian and genealogist, chante of the Cathedral of Lisbon, from whence he was natural, is considered one of the pioneers of Portuguese journalism. Second Edition (the first dates of 1655), which includes for the first time the author's biography, the speech on the coins of the kingdom, the memoirs about the Portuguese cardinals and still the panegyric of João de Barros to the Portuguese King D. João III. Quinta das Lágrimas Stamp - Coimbra on the title and 17 pages; ownership erased by the printing foot. A clean copy with fine margins, lined with entire calf binding of the time. The work describes the pastoral journey of the Archbishop of Goa to the ancestral community of Christians of S. Tomé da Serra do Malabar, which followed the traditional Syrian rite-caldaico. It is therefore of the utmost importance for the history of this Christian Church of the Orient, from which you previously little or nothing knew. The author (16th Century, 1628), natural of Beja, professed in 1591 in the Hermits of St. Augustine, at the monastery of Grace of Lisbon; In 1602 it integrates an embassy to the Shah of Persia whose account can be read in Book III of this Journey; Shortly thereafter he was appointed Bishop of Cyrene and Apostolic nuncio with the Shah of Persia. As usual, the volume includes, with its own title page and independent foliage, o Synodo diocesano da Igreja e Bispado de Angamale dos antigos christãos de Sam Thome das Serras do Malauar das partes da India Oriental ([2], 62 f.), seguindo-se a Missa de qve vsam os antigos christãos de São Thome do Bispado de Angamale... ([9] f.). A slightly handled and trimmed copy with some moisture stains and imperfections, especially on the inner margin of almost the whole volume; title page with Quinta das Lágrimas stamp - Coimbra, which is repeated on leaf 17f.; Slightly disjointed first book. Ownership manuscript at the beginning of the text and on leaves 77 and 141: D. Josepha da Silva. Binding of the first half of the 19th century, entire calf, with the smooth fatigued spine. A very clean copy with large margins of a fundamental title meant for the studying of Portuguese Civil Law. It was the very Emperor Justinian (482-565) who instructed three compilers to draw up the Institutes, a synthesis of the Digest, intended to be used as a school handbook and that it would achieve great diffusion. Rafael de Lemos de Afonseca or da Fonseca (*1634), born in Lisbon and Bachelor of Law from the University of Coimbra, published these comments to the Institutes with only 22 years of age. Original flexible vellum binding of the time with small dsmage at the head of the spine. Bibliotheca Lusitana (Atlântida), III, p. 633. Arouca (A44) does not mention the author's portrait and only indicates 16 preliminary leaves.
