FERNÃO MENDES PINTO - 1510/14-1583 The original edition of a travel book that would achieve great success across Europe, to judge by the various translations and editions that he had during the 17th century: two in Portuguese, five in Spanish, two in French, two in Dutch, three in English and two in German. Fernão Mendes Pinto (1510/14-1583), famous traveller and adventurer, was born in Montemor-o-Velho. Full copy, only lightly trimmed (gilded leaf cutting). Small bookworm cut on outer margin, sometimes restored, affecting about 60 leaves (f. 236 to 266). Moreover, a very clean copy and exceptionally well maintained. Recent binding, intact hard parchment; label of Federico d'Almeida’s workshop, semée decoration of small blind-embossed vegetal motifs inlaid in semi-circles, on the plan and spine; wheel to the boards and thickness of the folders.
