The Annunciation, oil on canvas, Portuguese school, 18th C., relined, small restorations Notes: This painting was done from one of the variations for the mosaic of Agostino Masucci (1691-1758) that is exhibited in the chapel of St. John the Baptist, Church of São Roque, Lisbon, in the present case, it was an order of D. João V, King of Portugal, in 1742 and having been inaugurated in January 13, 1751, after his death, with D. José I on the throne. By Agostino Masucci, there are several versions of this composition. In Portugal are known the paintings exhibited in the Museum of Aveiro and the National Palace of Mafra. View respectively: VALE, Teresa Leonor m.-[catalogue entries]. From the Royal Chapel of The Patriarchate of Lisbon to the Royal Chapel of St. John the Baptist", Lisbon: Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda, 2013, p. 48, fig. 15 [the Museum of São Roque] and SALDANHA, Nuno," Joanni V, magnifico: the painting in Portugal at the time of King D. João V: 1706-1750 ", Lisbon: The Portuguese Architectural and Archaeological Institute [of] the State Secretary of culture, 1994, p. 360, fig. 53. However, it is known that this composition of Masucci was reproduced by some Portuguese Painters, as is the example of André Gonçalves (1685-1754) of whom are known the paintings currently exhibited: the Machado de Castro National Museum, The Holy House of Mercy and Seminary of the Holy family, Coimbra.
